It's the thing that normalizes and merges tags from all the different sites that fic can be published to, so we don't have Skitter and Taylor Hebert and Taylor H in the listings. No more analysis, but I finally got my stupid tag mangling module published. In fact, the fandom produced slightly more this year, with 30mm sfw words versus last year's 29mm. The 2018 numbers don't have individual fics extracted from collections. So if you look at the 2017 you'll see that it apparently has more fic. There were also one hundred and fifty-three new quests, three completed quests, fifty-one updated quests, and seven never continued quests. There were eight hundred and fourteen new fics, fifty-two completed fics, one hundred and forty-six new one-shot fics, one hundred and fifty-eight collections, three hundred and eighty-four updated fics, and one hundred and seven never continued fics. The 24th Oct saw the most new fic, with a total of 14 started that day! Meanwhile, there were 2 days without new fic: 16th Apr, 1st Jan. I suspect there are a bunch of untagged altpowers lurking amongst them.

As many as 1k fic may have been free of altpowers and crossovers, but I’m dubious. Of those 668 were definitely crossovers or… uh, well, more likely altpowers borrowed from other sources. You all updated 1.9k fic in 2018, having 34m words in them spread across 13k chapters! That's 65 words a minute!
